Fernvale Memorial Park This year the Donkey Society of Queensland will be again holding a donkey walk on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. We will meet at Fernvale Memorial Park at 10 am, and set out in the direction of Wanora. Last year’s walk also started from Fernvale but headed in the opposite direction towards Lowood, so we will have a change of scenery this year. The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is a good walking surface for people and donkeys, and generally fairly flat. The section we will be walking on passes through pleasant farming countryside. There will be varying levels of walking ability for both people and donkeys, and people can choose to walk for as little or as far as they wish. However I would expect that most will walk for about 4 km, then turn back to Fernvale where we will have a picnic lunch/BBQ at around 1pm. All DSQ members and their donkeys are welcome, as are members of the public, with or without donkeys. There is no charge for DSQ members, however for non-members there is a $5 administration fee. Fernvale is a pleasant little town on the Brisbane Valley Highway west of Brisbane. There is a bakery, pub and cafés in the town. The Visitor Information Centre is located in the park, and there are tables and chairs under shelter, toilets and an electric BBQ. The DSQ will be providing sausages and rolls for a sausage sizzle. Apart from this, people will need to bring their own food and drink and any other requirements. Please contact me for any enquiries or to let me know if you will be attending the event.
